Chapter 18 - The Synthetic Plague

Cross realized I was online. Instead of backing down, he launched a digital bloodbath.
"He’s initiating the attack," I warned Michael, watching the monitors flash a blinding, priority-red. "He isn't waiting until noon. He is deploying a massive fleet of Facebook clone accounts and aged Instagram profiles."
Cross had bypassed traditional media entirely. Because standard promotional campaigns for illicit financial claims would be instantly rejected by Google Ads, he utilized his massive underground clone networks to push raw, unmonitored web traffic directly into the feeds of the American public.
He was using advanced video prompt engineering—specifically leveraging stolen fragments of older Seedance architecture—to generate hyper-realistic deepfakes. The videos showed fabricated, terrified whistleblowers weeping on camera, claiming that my forensic accounting firm had stolen their data to fund an international cyber-war.
The viral momentum was catastrophic. The algorithms, heavily influenced by Omnicorp’s backdoor access, prioritized the manufactured outrage. Within an hour, my firm’s pristine reputation was bleeding out on the global internet.
"He’s drowning us in synthetic smoke," Michael said, his jaw clenched so tightly a muscle feathered in his cheek.
"I don't play defense, Michael," I said, leaning closer to the terminal. "If Cross wants to use artificial avatars to rewrite my history, I am going to use his own digital arrogance to suffocate him."
I didn't waste time trying to issue takedown notices to social media platforms. I had to hijack his rendering pipeline. I isolated the specific scene-by-scene prompt structures and the exact character parameters he was inputting to create these fake victims. I found the digital fingerprint of his root server.
"I am creating a synthetic ghost," I explained, rapidly compiling a self-replicating digital parasite. "I’m disguising this malware packet as a routine background update for his AI character models. The moment his automated system accepts this prompt update to generate the next wave of deepfakes, the parasite will detonate."

"It will crash his servers?" Michael asked, watching the complex algorithms flow across the screen.
"It won't just crash them," I whispered coldly. "It will strip away his military-grade VPNs, shatter his firewalls, and permanently expose his market-manipulation ledgers to every financial regulator on earth."
