Chapter 14 - The Ambush at the SummitThere is a distinct difference between legal defense and a public slaughter. In a courtroom, a corrupt CEO can hide behind his expensive lawyers and procedural delays. But in front of the press, the investors, and his own audience, the truth belongs to whoever holds the heaviest ammunition.

The grand ballroom of the Manhattan convention center was a masterpiece of neon lights, pulsing bass, and sheer, intoxicating modern wealth.
It was the Slink Global Fashion Summit, an event packed with tech moguls, fashion icons, and elite digital marketers.
I wore a sweeping, floor-length gown of midnight-blue silk. I did not look like a desperate charity director fighting a frozen bank loan. I looked like an apex predator stepping onto a battlefield. Julian walked beside me in a flawless black tuxedo, radiating an aura of lethal, terrifying power that forced the crowds to physically part for us.
At exactly 9:00 PM, Damian Cross stepped onto the main stage.
He wore a designer suit, flashing a blinding, practiced smile as the massive digital screens behind him displayed the flawless, AI-generated faces of his virtual KOCs. The crowd erupted into applause.
"Tonight, Slink revolutionizes the fashion industry," Damian boomed into his microphone, basking in the glow of his untouchable superiority. "We don't just predict trends. We create them. We are the most trusted, compliant, and organic digital brand in the world."
Julian and I had already bypassed the main floor. While the crowd was mesmerized by Damian, Maya—operating remotely from Blue Ridge—had hacked the venue’s secondary Wi-Fi. I stepped into the VIP control booth overlooking the stage. The technician inside didn't even have time to shout before Julian quietly, firmly escorted him out of the room.
I plugged the encrypted USB drive into the master console.
"Hit it," Julian murmured.
I pressed enter.
Down on the stage, Damian was in the middle of a sentence when the massive screens behind him violently glitched. The beautiful, virtual fashion models vanished.
The screens shifted to display a stark, highly detailed forensic financial ledger.
"What is this?" Damian hissed, tapping his microphone. "Cut the feed! Cut the feed now!"
But the feed was locked. My pre-recorded voice, calm and crystal clear, echoed through the state-of-the-art surround sound system.
“Damian Cross claims that Slink is an organic, compliant brand. But the truth is, Slink is an instrument of massive corporate fraud. The engagement you see is not real. Damian Cross has built his empire by purchasing high-volume, illegal web traffic from domains explicitly rejected for policy violations, washing it through dark-web channels to bypass federal advertising standards.”
The ballroom erupted in chaos. Gasps echoed through the room. Investors physically backed away from the stage as the screens displayed the exact routing numbers, the rejected domain purchases, and the internal video advertising captions that proved his malicious intent.
Damian stumbled backward, his face turning the color of ash. He stared at the control booth. He saw me standing there, looking down at him with absolute, unvarnished pity.
"This is a cyber attack!" Damian shrieked, his polished composure completely disintegrating. He pointed a trembling finger at the cameras. "She is lying! She is a fraud!"
The heavy mahogany doors at the back of the ballroom burst open.
Two dozen federal agents from the FBI’s Cybercrime Division poured into the room, their badges flashing under the strobe lights. They bypassed the crowd completely and marched straight toward the stage.
"Damian Cross," the lead agent boomed, pulling a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt. "You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, market manipulation, and corporate extortion. Put your hands behind your back."
Damian fought wildly as the agents wrenched his arms behind his back. The untouchable tech mogul was reduced to a pathetic, shivering criminal in front of millions of live viewers.
As they dragged him away, he glared up at the booth with pure, unadulterated hatred.

"You ruined me!" he screamed.
I didn't smile. I simply turned off the console. I had balanced the books, and the debt was paid in full.
