Chapter 22 - The Architecture of an AmbushWhen a predator holds a child hostage, you do not lock the doors and hide in the dark. You put on your armor, you find their supply lines, and you sever them completely.

By midnight, my executive suite had been transformed into a militarized war room.

Julian had called in his most elite cybersecurity contractors. The massive oak table was buried under blueprints, digital ledgers, and encrypted laptops. I sat at the head of the table, an empty espresso cup beside me, my eyes burning as I scanned the diagnostics Maya had pulled on Cross Media.

"Nathaniel Cross is brilliant, but he is incredibly arrogant," Julian said grimly, pacing behind my chair. He looked dangerous—a lethal shadow pacing a cage. "He hides behind compliant corporate structures. His companies strictly follow Facebook and Google advertising guidelines on paper. But underneath the clean veneer, he is running an international extortion ring."

"He buys traffic from banned sites," Maya realized, her fingers flying across her keyboard. "Look at this. Cross Media intentionally purchases massive, cheap web traffic from domains that have been explicitly rejected by major search engines for policy violations. He funnels this untraceable, unregulated traffic into his shadow networks to communicate with his syndicate clients without triggering federal compliance algorithms."

"He is using digital slums to wash his communications," I summarized, a cold, terrifying clarity settling over me. "He thinks he is a ghost."

"If we call Interpol, Cross will know immediately," Julian warned. "He has politicians in his pocket. The moment a warrant is drafted, he will erase his servers, and Clara’s daughter will disappear forever."

"Then we do not call Interpol," I said softly, but with absolute conviction. "We cannot fight him in the shadows. We have to trap him in the light. And we have to make him open the door to that Geneva compound himself."

Julian let out a ragged breath. "What is the play, Victoria?"

"We give him exactly what he wants," I said, my eyes hardening into diamonds. "We give him the database."

Maya and Julian stared at me in absolute shock.

"I am going to build a Poison Pill," I explained, the master blueprint forming in my head. "Maya, I want you to create a flawless, synthesized replica of our European database. Fake names, fake locations, fake medical records. But embedded deep within the source code of that file, you are going to plant an aggressive, military-grade tracking beacon and a self-executing decryption worm."

I looked at Clara, who was sitting quietly in the corner, clutching a blanket.

"Clara is going to contact Cross," I commanded, my voice echoing with absolute authority. "She is going to tell him she successfully extracted the data, but it is heavily encrypted. She will tell him that the only way to hand over the physical decryption key is to do an in-person exchange."

"He won't meet a rogue operative in a dark alley," Julian pointed out. "He is too paranoid."

"He won't have to," I smiled—a dangerous, predatory expression. "Tomorrow night is the Global Media and Philanthropy Gala at the Savoy Hotel. Cross is the keynote speaker. We are going to execute him on his own stage."
