Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Sovereign

The fallout was a spectacular, coordinated slaughter of the global shadow economy.
By sunrise, the international banking system was in absolute chaos, purged of its darkest elements by the massive data leak I had engineered. Victoria Mercer was denied bail, facing the rest of her life in a maximum-security facility. Julian, who had attempted to illegally access his grandmother's funds during the chaos, was arrested as a co-conspirator, ensuring he would never see the outside of a federal penitentiary again.
The authorities arrived at Pine Hollow to collect the mercenaries, treating me not as a suspect, but as a legitimate titan who had miraculously survived and dismantled a terror plot. The media hailed my foundation as a beacon of untouchable integrity, and our endowment tripled overnight.
Six months later, the crisp spring breeze swept across the sprawling, manicured lawns of our mountain estate. The toxic fallout of the Mercer collapse was nothing but a footnote in the incredible, unstoppable history of my life.
I stood on the wraparound porch, the golden afternoon sunlight warming my skin. The nightmare was truly, finally over.
Liam walked out of the heavy timber doors, looking effortlessly handsome, holding two glasses of champagne. He handed me one, wrapping his strong arm around my waist and pulling me flush against his side.
"The contractors just finished the final expansion on the foundation's new headquarters," Liam murmured, kissing the top of my head.
"It's perfect," I smiled, leaning my head against his shoulder, listening to the steady, powerful rhythm of his heart.
Liam turned to face me, his dark eyes softening with a profound, overwhelming love that still took my breath away. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a sleek, black velvet box.
When he snapped it open, a breathtaking, flawless emerald-cut diamond caught the mountain sunlight perfectly.
"I don't just want to fight your battles with you," Liam said, his voice thick with raw, beautiful emotion. "I want to celebrate every victory, wake up next to you every morning, and build the rest of my life entirely around you. Will you marry me?"
Tears of pure, unadulterated joy spilled over my eyelashes. I looked at the incredible man kneeling before me, the beautiful home radiating with light, and the vast, unburdened horizon stretching out in front of us.
"Yes," I whispered, pulling him up into my arms. "Yes, Liam. A million times, yes."

He slipped the ring onto my finger and pulled me into a sweeping, passionate kiss. The world around us seemed to melt away, leaving only the profound, unbreakable security of the life we had defended.
The villains had tried to bury me in the dark. They didn't realize that every time they tried to crush me, they were simply compacting the earth beneath my feet, giving me a harder, stronger surface to build my kingdom upon. The monsters were permanently locked away, the digital phantoms were erased, and my beautiful, victorious world was finally, eternally at peace.
