Chapter 2 - The Loving Victim

The hardest performance of my life was returning to our sprawling estate and playing the broken, grieving wife. Jared played his part beautifully, hovering over me with fake concern, bringing me tea—which I secretly poured down the sink—and holding my hand.
Courtney, brazen and deeply cruel, visited often. She would sit on my sofa, rubbing her growing belly, whispering fake sympathies while exchanging smirking glances with my husband.
But while they were busy playing house, I was playing detective. Every time Jared stepped into the shower, I photographed his private banking ledgers. I mirrored his laptop and intercepted his emails. I gathered a mountain of irrefutable evidence: the forged pathology reports, the offshore wire transfers to Dr. Evans, and emails between Jared and Courtney discussing how they would spend my portion of the estate once I was "out of the way."
