Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Ambush

Jason and Victoria put on their most polished, aristocratic smiles and turned to greet the billionaire holding their lives in his hands.
The smiles instantly vanished, replaced by a shock so profound it looked like they had been physically struck.
Walking into the boardroom was not an older, arrogant Wall Street titan.
It was Emily.
She wore a razor-sharp, midnight-blue power suit. Her hair was flawlessly styled, her posture immaculate, radiating the absolute, terrifying confidence of a woman who owned the building she was standing in. Flanking her were two of the most ruthless corporate litigators in the city.
"Emily?" Jason choked out, all the blood draining from his face. "What... what are you doing here?"
Victoria stumbled backward, her hand flying to her throat. "This is a joke. Where is the CEO?"
"You're looking at her," Emily said, taking her seat at the head of the long mahogany table. She did not raise her voice. She didn't need to. "My father, Arthur Carter, transferred the controlling shares of Carter Holdings to me last month. Which means I own your debt. All of it."
The silence in the boardroom was absolute, suffocating, and beautiful.

"Emily, please," Jason stammered, his eyes darting frantically around the room, finally giving her the attention he had denied her in court. "We can talk about this. We're family."
"We were never family, Jason," Emily corrected smoothly. "I was an employee you stopped wanting to pay. And you are a severely overleveraged asset that I am liquidating."
