Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable EmpireOne year later.

The sun set over the Manhattan skyline, casting a brilliant, golden glow through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Escalante Global Headquarters. I stood at the glass, looking out over the empire that my father had built, and the legacy that I was now leading.
The company had expanded exponentially under my direction. I had proven to the board, to the world, and most importantly, to myself, that I was not just an heiress. I was an Escalante. A queen in her own right, ruling with intellect, grace, and absolute, unforgiving power.
Strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind, pulling me back against a broad, solid chest. Julian pressed a soft, lingering kiss to the side of my neck, sending a shiver of warmth down my spine.
"The merger with the European markets is finalized," Julian murmured, his deep voice vibrating against my skin. "The board unanimously approved your restructuring plan. You've officially conquered two continents, Mariana."
I smiled, turning in his arms and looping my hands around his neck. Julian wasn't an insecure boy like Andrew. He was a king who celebrated my power, a partner who stood beside me as an equal, building our empire together.
"We conquered it," I corrected softly, looking into his brilliant green eyes.
"I just provided the capital," Julian smirked, his hands resting possessively on my hips. "You're the mastermind, my love."
As we stood there, bathed in the golden light of our success, my phone buzzed on the mahogany desk. It was an automated news alert I had set up months ago.
I walked over and picked it up.
The headline read: FORMER SOCIALITE ANDREW KENSINGTON SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS FOR TAX FRAUD AND CHECK FORGERY.
I stared at the headline for a long moment. There was a time when that name would have sent a spike of terror and anxiety straight through my heart. There was a time when I believed that my worth was defined by his cruelty, and that my only purpose was to serve a family that despised me.
I tapped the screen, permanently deleting the alert, and tossed the phone onto the desk.
"Good news?" Julian asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Just closing an old book," I smiled, walking back into his arms. "I'm ready for the next chapter."
I looked out at the glittering lights of the city below. I had survived the humiliation. I had survived the betrayals. I had walked through the fire of the Kensington mansion and emerged not as a victim, but as a diamond.

The ordinary, submissive girl was gone forever.
I was Mariana Escalante. I was untouchable, unstoppable, and undeniably free. And my reign was just beginning.
