The Groom Who Came for Me / Chapter 9 / 10

Chapter 9 - The Love Clare Never Expected

A year after the wedding, Clare and Adrien returned to the Bennett estate.

The garden pavilion had been rebuilt.

Not because Clare wanted to erase what happened there, but because she wanted to transform it.

That night, the Bennett Foundation hosted a gala for women rebuilding their lives after betrayal, financial abuse, and domestic hardship.

Clare stood beneath the same white roses.

But she was no longer the woman who had waited for someone else to arrive.

Adrien stood beside her, not in front of her.

Not behind her.

Beside her.

“You are quiet,” he said.

“I am remembering.”

“Do you regret calling me?”

Clare smiled.

“No.”

“Even though I arrived with only six minutes to spare?”

“You arrived.”

Adrien took her hand.

“I will keep arriving,” he said. “For the rest of my life.”

Later, Vanessa appeared at the gala.

She had started therapy, moved into her own apartment, and begun working at a community art center. She and Clare were not as close as they had once been.

But they were learning to become sisters again without competition, secrets, or sacrifice.

Vanessa hugged Clare carefully.

“You look happy,” she said.

May you like

“I am.”

And for the first time, Vanessa smiled without envy.
