CHAPTER 4: THE BETRAYAL

The ballroom erupted into horrified gasps. The city's elite watched in shock as the golden boy's pristine reputation was burned to ash in real time. Sebastian scrambled on the floor, looking desperately at his business partners. "It's deepfakes!" he screamed. "She fabricated it!" He grabbed the ankle of a prominent politician standing nearby. "Tell her! Tell her I'm innocent!" The politician kicked his hand away in absolute disgust. "I don't know you," the man said coldly, adjusting his tie and turning his back. The betrayal was absolute. In the world of the ultra-wealthy, loyalty only lasts as long as your leverage. And Sebastian's leverage was currently flashing across four massive screens as a federal felony. He looked back at me. Tears streaming down his face. "Please," he sobbed. "I'll give you anything. I'll transfer my shares. I'll leave the country." I stood over him. Looking down at the pathetic creature who had shoved me into a wall just ten minutes ago. "I don't want your money, Sebastian," I said softly.
