Chapter 3 - The Board Dinner

The merger required a final dinner with the primary investors.
Daniel insisted on hosting it at our Lincoln Park home to showcase his perfect life.
On Friday night, the house was flawless.
The catered food was exquisite.
The board of directors sat around our massive dining table, drinking expensive wine.
And sitting right next to the lead investor was Vanessa Cole.
She wore a sleek black dress and offered me a polite, professional smile when I poured her water.
She acted as though she hadn't been leaving a boutique hotel on Rush Street with my husband a few days ago.
Daniel stood at the head of the table.
He raised his glass.
"I want to thank my beautiful wife," Daniel said smoothly. "Behind every successful man is a woman who holds the family together."
The investors smiled and clapped.
Vanessa took a slow sip of her wine, looking incredibly bored.
"And now," Daniel continued, "Vanessa has prepared a preview of the PR campaign that will launch this merger."

He looked at me.
"Honey, would you pull up the presentation?"
