Chapter 4 - The Unveiling

I picked up the remote.
The large smart TV on the dining room wall lit up.
Daniel expected to see a photoshopped image of himself standing proudly beside his wife and children.
Instead, the original family portrait appeared.
Just me, Emma, and Caleb.
Smiling. Happy. Complete.
Without him.
Daniel’s smile froze. "What is this?"
"This is the reality of your family," I said quietly.
Before he could demand I turn it off, I clicked the remote again.
A timestamped photograph filled the screen.
It was Daniel’s black Range Rover parked outside the boutique hotel.
The investors stopped drinking.
I clicked the remote again.
Vanessa Cole walking out of the hotel lobby.
I clicked it one more time.
Daniel walking out of the exact same doors, holding the brand-new navy jacket he had brought to the photography studio.
