Chapter 5 - The Empress

Four months later, the California sun poured through the windows of my estate.

I sat in the nursery, holding my perfectly healthy, beautiful newborn son, Leo. Owen and Lily were playing happily on the rug beside me, completely insulated from the toxic, manipulative environment their father had tried to force upon them.

The divorce was nearly finalized. Faced with irrefutable evidence of his emotional abuse and the total collapse of his financial standing, Grant had surrendered completely. He was awarded supervised, alternating weekend visitation and ordered to pay a pathetic amount of child support from his new, mid-level management job in a different city.

Tessa, realizing she had hitched her wagon to a disgraced, bankrupt pariah instead of a wealthy tech executive, had abandoned him less than a month after the eviction. She vanished into obscurity, searching for an easier mark.

Grant was left entirely alone, renting a cramped apartment, haunted by the memory of the dining room where he thought he had secured his ultimate victory.
