Rachel’s forensic team noticed that the loans did not mature for another four years.
Adrian had already received millions.
The artifact sales added more.
So immediate money was not the only objective.
Then they found a draft board resolution saved in Adrian’s corporate account.
It had never been submitted.
The document proposed removing Rocco from active control of the Moretti Foundation if he became subject to a criminal investigation involving museum assets.
The proposed interim chairman was Adrian Moretti.
The date on the draft was six months earlier.
Before Celeste began taking Mia’s glasses.
Before the first midnight approval.
Before the first artifact disappeared.
Rocco stared at it.
“He planned the investigation.”
Rachel nodded.
The theft was only one layer.
Adrian had designed the scheme so that, eventually, someone would discover missing originals and fraudulent loans.
When that happened, evidence would point toward Rocco.
His phone.
His signature.
His foundation credentials.
His museum.
Adrian would step forward as the concerned senior capo trying to protect the family businesses from Rocco’s “recklessness.”
Three earlier details changed meaning immediately.
The false transfer documents were not merely cover for theft. They were evidence being planted.
The duplicate warehouse inventory was not merely collateral. It connected Rocco’s foundation directly to fraudulent financing.
And Celeste taking Mia’s glasses had not simply protected midnight theft. It protected the creation of a case against Mia’s own father.
Rachel found another draft.
A private memorandum prepared for several senior Moretti business partners.
It questioned Rocco’s judgment since becoming a single father.
It argued that “domestic distraction” had compromised leadership.
Adrian had been preparing people to believe the story before the scandal even existed.
Celeste’s involvement became clearer too.
She had repeatedly complained that Rocco’s businesses consumed his life.
Adrian promised that forcing him from operational control would solve that.
According to messages recovered from Celeste’s cloud backup, Adrian told her:
He keeps the money. He keeps the house. He keeps you. He just stops running everything.
Celeste replied:

Adrian answered:
She gets her father.
Celeste had convinced herself she was helping create a better future.
Then money trapped her.

Rocco read the messages twice.
The most painful betrayal was not that Celeste wanted him dead or poor.
She did not.
She wanted him diminished.
Controllable.
Removed from the part of his life she resented.
And Adrian had used that desire to build a takeover around him.
Rachel closed the file.
“We can prove enough to expose the structure.”
Rocco looked toward the window.
