Chapter 7 - The Algorithmic Syndicate

The illusion of absolute peace shattered before the morning sun could crest over the Japanese-style roof. Roman and Evelyn stood in the steel kitchen, staring at an encrypted laptop screen. The threat wasn't a drive-by shooting or a firebombing at the tailor shop. It was a digital guillotine.
A shadow organization, calling themselves the Obsidian Coalition, had stepped into the power vacuum left by the Morettis. But they were not street thugs; they were the ghostwriters of global corruption. They knew Roman was transitioning his empire into legitimate real estate and logistics, and they intended to strangle his cash flow before he could legitimize his throne.
"They are executing a massive traffic arbitrage campaign," Roman growled, pacing the hardwood floor like a caged panther. "They’ve bypassed every traditional media outlet. Sal’s tech guys are tracing it, but the volume is impossible to block."
Evelyn stared at the screen, her analytical mind piecing the patterns together exactly as she would a complex bespoke suit. The Coalition had purchased tens of thousands of aged Instagram profiles and Facebook clone accounts from dark-web vendors. Because standard smear campaigns would be instantly flagged and rejected by Google Ads, the syndicate was using their massive clone network to push raw, unmonitored web traffic directly into the feeds of the public.
The content was devastating. They were using highly sophisticated deepfakes, fabricating hyper-realistic videos of Roman’s legitimate lieutenants engaging in extortion and international money laundering.
"They are going to trigger a federal RICO investigation by midnight if this goes viral," Roman said, his voice dropping to a lethal register. "I know how to fight men with guns, Evelyn. I can't put a bullet in an algorithm."
"You don't need a bullet," Evelyn said softly, her eyes narrowing as she looked up at the man she loved. She wasn't just a tailor anymore; she was the Underboss’s queen. "A tailor knows how to find the seams in any design, Roman. They are using artificial volume to build a fake narrative. We don't fight the narrative. We unravel the seam."

Roman stopped pacing, looking at her with a mixture of profound respect and dark, consuming hunger. "What are you thinking?"
"I’m thinking you need to give me access to your digital architects," Evelyn stated, standing up and tying her hair back. "They want to play a game of digital extortion. I am going to give them a bloodbath."
