Chapter 12 - The Silicon SiegeYou do not fight a shadow syndicate by playing defense. By the time you build a wall, they have already poisoned the air you breathe.

Within two hours, Julian’s elite private military contractors had executed a flawless, silent sweep of our estate. The four mercenaries Croft had stationed in the redwoods were neutralized with suppressed tranquilizers and detained in a black-site holding facility before they even knew they were being hunted. Aria was entirely safe, completely oblivious to the danger, drinking hot cocoa by the fireplace.
But neutralizing the immediate threat wasn't enough. I needed to annihilate the source.
By midnight, the executive floor of AuraTech in San Francisco was a militarized cyber-intelligence bunker. Sarah, my Chief Legal Officer, and Elias, my lead hacker, were tearing through the global satellite grid, tracking the IP ping from Croft’s video call.
"Croft isn't hiding in a foreign country," Elias reported, his fingers flying across the keyboard. "He’s arrogant. He’s operating out of a decommissioned Cold War bunker in the Nevada desert. It’s entirely off the grid. No internet connection. He routed that video call through a localized, encrypted microwave transmitter."
"He thinks he’s untouchable because he’s analog," Julian noted, projecting the 3D blueprints of the bunker onto the smart-board. "The facility has blast doors, independent generators, and an internal server farm holding decades of illegal blackmail on global politicians."
"He wants my AI to add to his arsenal," I deduced, pacing the length of the Persian rug. "If we call the FBI, Croft will initiate a burn protocol. He’ll destroy his servers and vanish, only to come after us again. We have to trap him inside his own fortress."
"How?" Sarah asked, her eyes wide with shock. "The bunker is physically impenetrable."
"No fortress is impenetrable," I smiled—a cold, terrifying expression. "Elias, Croft demanded that I transfer the root access of Project Genesis to his servers by tomorrow morning. He assumes I will use a direct satellite uplink to send the data to his microwave receiver."
"You want to send him the code?" Julian asked, his brilliant venture-capitalist mind instantly catching up to my strategy.
"I want to send him a mirror," I corrected softly. "Elias, I want you to package a massive, self-replicating digital virus and disguise it as the quantum root code. When Croft downloads the file into his closed-loop bunker, the virus will deploy. It won't just crash his servers. It will rewrite his automated security grid."

"We can lock the blast doors from the inside," Elias gasped, realizing the sheer genius of the plan. "We can trap him in the bunker."
"And once he’s trapped," I whispered, pulling my tailored blazer over my shoulders, "Julian and I are going to pay the Director a visit."
