Chapter 19 - The Executioner’s GambitThe terminal screen flashed green.

Victor raised his glass in a mock toast. "To the end of the AuraTech era."
But the download didn't complete. Suddenly, the ambient lighting in the grand ballroom flickered violently. The massive digital screens displaying the burning global markets froze, hitched, and then turned blood red.
A deep, localized hum vibrated through the steel floorboards of the yacht.
The color completely and utterly drained from Victor’s face. The untouchable billionaire shattered in a microsecond.
"What is happening?!" Victor shrieked, dropping his scotch glass. It shattered on the marble floor.
"Sir!" the technician panicked, his hands flying across the terminal. "The drive wasn't the root code! It’s a self-replicating quantum virus! It’s feeding infinite data loops directly into the core!"
"Shut it down!" Victor roared.
"I can't! It’s overriding the physical cooling systems! The core is overheating!"
Smoke began to pour from the ventilation grates at the back of the room. The quantum computer, the machine Victor had spent five years building to conquer the world, was literally melting itself from the inside out.
"You see, Victor," I said smoothly, my voice echoing through the terrified, silent ballroom, "when you rely entirely on a machine, you forget the most important rule of war. Never invite the architect of your destruction into your house."
Victor staggered backward, absolute, unadulterated terror replacing his arrogance. "You destroyed a fifty-billion-dollar machine! I will kill you both!"
"You won't do anything, Victor," Julian rumbled, stepping forward, radiating pure, lethal executioner energy. "Because while your core was melting, my wife’s virus also downloaded your unredacted offshore ledgers. The ones proving you faked your death and defrauded the sovereign wealth funds of half the people in this room."
The masked billionaires surrounding us instantly turned on Victor, their eyes filled with absolute rage.
"And," I added, tapping my encrypted tablet, "I just forwarded those exact ledgers to Interpol, the FBI, and the European Central Bank."
The sound of heavy rotors echoed outside the yacht. Through the panoramic windows, three heavily armed Interpol gunships descended out of the night sky, their searchlights blindingly bright as they painted the yacht.
"Victor Sterling!" a voice boomed over a megaphone from the gunships. "Cut your engines! You are under international arrest!"
Victor didn't fight. He was completely paralyzed by the sheer, devastating speed of his own destruction. As the armed tactical teams breached the ballroom and slapped heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists, he shot one last, terrified, pleading look at Julian.

"You haven't won," Victor wept as they dragged him away, his empire literally burning beneath his feet.
"I won the moment you thought I was a target," I replied softly, my voice carrying the absolute finality of a judge delivering a death sentence.
