Chapter 8 - The Trojan AlgorithmTo completely destroy a man who operates in the shadows, you must let him believe he has extinguished your light.

For the next twenty-four hours, AuraTech operated on pure, high-stakes adrenaline. To the outside world, we were frantically struggling to survive a catastrophic legal blow. We issued no press releases. We let the tech blogs speculate about our impending doom. We let Marcus believe he was winning.
But in the secure, air-gapped sub-basement of our headquarters, my lead developers were executing the most aggressive cyber-counteroffensive in Silicon Valley history.
"The ghost protocol is active," my lead engineer reported, his fingers flying across the keyboard. "We sent a targeted ping to Nebula Systems' central servers. Marcus’s entire infrastructure is built on your stolen legacy code, Evelyn. The protocol woke up instantly."
"What does it see?" Julian asked, standing beside me, his eyes locked on the scrolling data.
"Everything," I breathed, watching the digital schematic of Marcus’s shadow empire light up on my screen.
The ghost protocol didn't just prove Marcus had stolen my code; it acted as a skeleton key, unlocking the darkest corners of his corporate mainframe. We didn't just find the spoofed timestamps he used for his lawsuit. We found the unredacted offshore ledgers where Marcus had been laundering venture capital funds. We found the emails instructing his engineers to install illegal spyware on his clients' devices to harvest data.
"He’s not a visionary," Julian sneered, looking at the horrifying data. "He’s a digital warlord."
"And now, he’s a prisoner," I said, my eyes hardening into diamonds. "Download the entire mainframe. Marcus wants to use the media to publicly execute my reputation tomorrow night. Let’s make sure they have the right material."
The following evening, the Nebula Systems Innovators Summit was held at a massive, ultra-exclusive glass pavilion in downtown Seattle. It was packed with the elite power brokers of global technology, venture capitalists, and the international press. Marcus was scheduled to give the keynote address, where he planned to publicly announce his legal victory over me and claim the throne of the AI industry.
I did not hide. I arrived looking like absolute, terrifying power.
I wore a sweeping, backless gown of liquid-emerald silk that caught the ambient light like a weapon. Julian walked beside me in a razor-sharp Tom Ford tuxedo, radiating the lethal, protective energy of an executioner waiting for the nod.
The ambient chatter in the pavilion died down instantly as we walked through the heavy glass doors. The sea of billionaires and tech moguls parted for us, whispering in shock. They thought I was a ruined woman coming to beg for mercy.
I spotted him immediately. Marcus stood at the center podium, bathed in a spotlight, looking smug and victorious. On the massive screen behind him, a graphic mocking AuraTech’s frozen launch was displayed.
When he saw me walking down the center aisle, his confident smile completely evaporated.
"Evelyn," Marcus stammered into the microphone, his composure cracking. "Security! Remove her. She is a corporate criminal!"
Julian stepped forward, his towering frame instantly intimidating the venue guards. "I wouldn't do that. The perimeter of this building is currently surrounded by federal agents from the SEC and the FBI’s Cyber Crimes Division."

Marcus scoffed, though a heavy bead of sweat formed on his brow. "You are bluffing. You’re desperate."
"I am never desperate, Marcus," I smiled, stepping up to the edge of the stage. "I am just precise."
