Chapter 18 - The Sovereign's MasqueradeTo completely destroy a man who operates in the shadows, you must drag him into the blinding light and strip him of his illusions of power in front of the entire world.

We landed in Nice under the cover of darkness and immediately boarded a heavily armored stealth helicopter to Monaco. The glittering coastline of the principality looked like a diamond necklace dropped in the dark water. Anchored a mile off the coast was a massive, three-hundred-foot mega-yacht—The Leviathan.

"That’s Victor’s ship," Julian noted, loading a localized, encrypted EMP drive into the inner pocket of his tuxedo. "The quantum core will be housed in the sub-deck, heavily cooled and guarded by private military contractors."

"We don't need to fight the guards," I said, checking my reflection in the helicopter window. "We just need to walk through the front door."

I wore a sweeping, backless gown of liquid-gold silk that caught the ambient light like a weapon. I looked like absolute, terrifying power. Julian looked like an executioner in a razor-sharp Tom Ford tuxedo.

The yacht was hosting an ultra-exclusive masquerade ball for the world’s hidden trillionaires. We didn't have invitations. We didn't need them.

As our helicopter touched down on the yacht's helipad, a team of armed mercenaries rushed forward.

Julian stepped out first, radiating a quiet, lethal menace that made the heavily armed men hesitate. I stepped out behind him, holding a sleek, titanium briefcase.

"Ms. Evelyn. Mr. Julian," the head of security said, his hand resting on his sidearm. "You are not on the guest list."

"Tell Victor Sterling that Evelyn brought the surrender documents," I said smoothly, my voice projecting crystal-clear authority over the roar of the helicopter blades. "He gave me three hours. I am here to hand over the root code."

The guard tapped his earpiece, listened for a moment, and nodded. "The Master is expecting you in the Grand Ballroom."

We were escorted down a sweeping glass staircase into the heart of the yacht. The Grand Ballroom was a masterpiece of obscene wealth, packed with masked billionaires sipping champagne while the global markets burned on massive digital screens around them.

Victor Sterling stood at the center of the room, unmasked, holding a crystal glass of scotch. When he saw us walking toward him, his confident, mocking smirk widened. He thought he had broken me. He thought the queen had come to beg.

"Julian. Evelyn," Victor purred loudly, ensuring the silent room caught the exchange. "I must admit, I didn't expect you to surrender in person. It’s very dramatic. But I suppose when you lose half a trillion dollars in three hours, you want to look your conqueror in the eye."

"I always look my enemies in the eye, Victor," I smiled, stopping exactly three feet away from him.

"Hand over the drive," Victor commanded, gesturing to the titanium briefcase. "My quantum core is waiting."

Julian stepped forward, opening the briefcase. Inside rested a single, glowing encrypted drive. It looked like the keys to the kingdom. In reality, it was a guillotine.

"Plug it into the main console," Victor ordered his lead technician, pointing to a massive, glowing terminal at the back of the ballroom.

The technician took the drive, walked to the terminal, and inserted it.

"Now," Victor sneered, turning back to me. "Watch as my machine digests your empire."

"I think I’d rather watch it choke," I whispered softly.
