Chapter 14 - The Global ExecutionTo completely annihilate a shadow syndicate, you cannot let them die in the dark. You must drag their sins into the blinding, unforgiving light of the global stage.

"If you don't open these doors, I will have my snipers execute your daughter!" Croft screamed, desperately clinging to his shattered leverage, completely unaware his men were already gone.

"Your snipers have been sitting in a black-site holding cell for ten hours," Julian stepped into the frame, radiating pure, lethal menace. "You have nothing. You are nothing."

I tapped the screen, pulling up the unredacted ledgers of his assassinations and blackmail.

"You wanted my AI to destroy the world, Gideon," I whispered softly. "I am going to use your data to destroy you."

"You can't release those files!" Croft panicked, his aristocratic, military composure completely annihilated. "If you expose the syndicate, the global markets will collapse! Governments will fall!"

"I don't care about the governments," I corrected, my voice ringing with a fierce, uncompromising fire. "I care about my family. You viewed my daughter as a casualty of your ambition. I view my family as an impenetrable fortress. And I will burn your entire legacy to ash before I let you touch them."

I didn't hesitate. I didn't second-guess. I pressed the execution key.

In a matter of seconds, the massive, highly classified trove of The Chimera Core’s darkest secrets was broadcast simultaneously to the DOJ, Interpol, the CIA, and every major investigative journalism outlet on the planet.

The fallout was instantaneous.

"The files are live," I told Croft, whose face had drained of every drop of color. "The Nevada State Police and the FBI are currently mobilizing a tactical breach unit to your location. They have the override codes for the blast doors. You won't suffocate, Gideon. You are going to spend the rest of your natural life in a concrete box."

Croft staggered backward, staring at the screen in absolute horror. The untouchable director had just realized he was completely trapped by the very woman he had underestimated.

"You insane bitch," Croft shrieked, his face contorted in an ugly, manic rage.

"I am a mother," I replied coldly. "Enjoy the darkness, Director."

I severed the connection. The screen went black.

Julian and I sat in the armored rover, watching the horizon as the first wave of federal black-hawk helicopters descended upon the abandoned mining facility.

The war was definitively, permanently over. The architect of the shadow syndicate had just been dismantled in less than twenty-four hours.

I leaned my head against the soft leather seat, a profound, unshakeable peace swelling in my chest.

Julian reached out, pulling me across the center console and into his lap. He wrapped his strong, heavy arms around me, burying his face in the crook of my neck. He kissed my skin with a fierce, desperate, consuming devotion.

"It’s done," Julian murmured, his voice thick with raw, overwhelming emotion. "The earth is salted, Evelyn. Nothing will ever grow from their roots again."

"Take me home, Julian," I whispered, lacing my fingers through his dark hair. "Our daughter is waiting for us."
