Chapter 17 - The Ghost in the MachineYou do not fight a ghost by playing defense. By the time you build a wall, they have already poisoned the code behind it.

The Apex Room descended into a tense, militarized silence. I turned to Julian. His jaw was locked into a rigid line of pure granite, his eyes burning with a terrifying, lethal focus. Victor Sterling had been Julian’s mentor, a ruthless Wall Street titan who had taught Julian everything about venture capital before betraying him.
"He faked his death to avoid federal indictment, took his billions offline, and built a quantum computer," Julian rumbled, pacing the glass floor. "He knows our internal architecture because he knows how I think. He trained me."
"He thinks he’s a god because he has a faster machine," I said, my mind operating with surgical, ice-cold precision. "Elias, can we trace the microwave ping from his broadcast?"
"It’s bouncing off an unregistered satellite array," Elias reported, sweating profusely. "But the latency gives us a geographical radius. He’s operating offshore. The Mediterranean. Somewhere near the coast of Monaco."
"He’s hosting a conclave," Julian deduced instantly. "Victor never does anything without an audience. The annual sovereign wealth summit is happening in Monaco this weekend. He’s crashing the global markets to prove to the old-money trillionaires that his quantum core is superior to AuraTech. He wants them to crown him."
"If we try to fight his quantum computer digitally, we lose," I said softly, a dark, terrifying smile spreading across my face. "His machine calculates a million variables a second. So, we don't fight the machine."
I turned to Julian, my eyes hardening into diamonds.
"We fight the man," I whispered. "Victor expects us to barricade ourselves in this room and try to write counter-code until we go bankrupt. He expects a cyber-war. So, we are going to give him a physical one. Julian, get the jet fueled. We are going to Monaco."
"Evelyn, if we leave the Nexus, we are totally exposed," Sarah, my Chief Legal Officer, warned as she ran into the room.
"We are already exposed," I corrected, pulling my tailored coat over my shoulders. "Victor wants my crown? I’m going to hand-deliver it to him. Elias, I don't want you to block his attacks. I want you to construct a digital Trojan horse. Disguise it as our master root code."
May you like
"A localized EMP virus," Elias gasped, realizing the sheer genius of the plan. "If we plug it directly into his quantum core, the feedback loop will melt his processors into slag."
"Exactly," I smiled. "Victor thinks he can hide behind a screen. But a machine is only as secure as the room it sits in. And tonight, I’m kicking the door down."
