Chapter 9 - The Ground Zero AmbushDamian expected me to panic. He expected me to show up at his glittering corporate boardroom, weeping and begging for a financial extension. He severely underestimated the woman standing at the helm of this firm.

I didn't send my lawyers. I brought an execution squad.

Armed with Julian’s proprietary 3D structural mapping, the original geological core samples, and the digital intel our cyber-team had just ripped from the dark web, we bypassed the local authorities entirely. We drove straight to the luxury, ultra-exclusive country club where Damian Croft was having a closed-door luncheon with the city's zoning commissioner.

I marched into the private, glass-walled dining room wearing my trench coat and stiletto boots, flanked by Julian and two heavily armed private security contractors we kept on retainer.

Damian was holding a crystal glass of scotch, laughing with the commissioner. When he saw us, his smug smile faltered.

"Victoria? Julian? What is the meaning of this?" Damian demanded, trying to maintain his aristocratic composure as the room fell dead silent. "You are trespassing on private property."

"I don't trespass, Damian. I conquer," I said, my voice echoing with crystal-clear authority across the opulent room. I threw a thick, red-tabbed dossier directly onto the white linen tablecloth.

"What is this garbage?" Damian hissed, glancing nervously at the commissioner.

"That is the unredacted offshore banking ledger our cyber-investigators just pulled from your personal Cayman accounts," I announced, delivering the fatal blow. "It shows a wire transfer of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars made exactly twelve hours ago to the city inspector who just shut down my husband's construction site."

The zoning commissioner’s face drained of every drop of color. He physically pushed his chair away from Damian.

"You forged those documents!" Damian yelled, his face turning a violent shade of purple, the refined billionaire act completely shattering.

"I also brought Julian's structural analysis," I continued smoothly, ignoring his panic. "The foundation type you claimed was unstable? I had it verified this morning by the head of civil engineering at MIT. The math is flawless. You didn't shut down our site because of safety, Damian. You committed corporate extortion and bribed a public official to force a default on a billion-dollar loan."

Damian staggered backward, dropping his scotch glass. It shattered on the hardwood floor. He realized, in a single, horrifying microsecond, that he had picked a fight with a woman who specialized in surviving total destruction.

"My team forwarded those ledgers to the FBI, the SEC, and the Federal Banking Authority ten minutes ago," Julian rumbled, stepping forward, radiating pure, unadulterated menace that forced Damian into a corner.

"You are going to call your bought inspector right now," I whispered, stepping entirely into Damian's personal space. "You are going to lift the stop-work order. And then you are going to authorize the immediate release of the next phase of our loan. If you don't, you won't just lose your position at the syndicate. You will spend the next twenty years in a federal penitentiary."
