Part 12: The Rhythm of Peace

Part 12: The Rhythm of Peace

The rhythm of a healed life is remarkably quiet.

There are no sudden midnight phone calls demanding damage control.

There are no calculated family dinners where every word is a trap waiting to be sprung.

There is just morning light.

The smell of fresh coffee in my apartment.

The predictable, comforting routine of unlocking the pharmacy doors at 8:00 a.m.

Mrs. Higgins came in at noon to pick up her heart medication.

She didn't care about my last name.

She didn't care about the high-society scandals that had once plastered my face across local blogs.

She only cared that I remembered to ask about her grandson’s graduation.

“You always have the calmest energy, Maya,” she told me, placing her card on the counter.

I smiled. A genuine, relaxed smile that reached my eyes.

“It takes practice,” I replied softly.

And it did.

Peace wasn't something that was handed to me when the Caldwells fell.

It was something I had to actively curate, brick by brick, by deciding every single day what I allowed into my space.
