Chapter 9 - The Final Severance

The spectacular, public arrest of Savannah dominated the news cycle for weeks, permanently cementing my reputation as a woman who was absolutely untouchable. But while Savannah was rotting in a federal holding cell, Wyatt had descended into a dangerous, obsessive madness.

Stripped of his mistress, his money, and his sanity, Wyatt’s mind had fractured entirely. He had fixated all of his remaining desperate energy on the son he had once abandoned. He convinced himself that if he could just get to Leo, he could somehow reclaim his stolen life.

It was a crisp Thursday afternoon. Leo’s elite private academy was just dismissing students. My private driver was waiting at the curb in a bulletproof SUV, while a highly trained security guard stood near the school gates.

Wyatt had been sleeping in his rusted car for a week, watching the school. Wearing a filthy, oversized hoodie and reeking of alcohol, he bypassed the perimeter by slipping through an alleyway. When he saw Leo walking out of the school doors, laughing with a classmate, Wyatt lunged.

“Leo!” Wyatt screamed, sprinting across the pavement, his eyes wild and terrifying. “Leo, it’s me! I’m your real father!”

Leo screamed in sheer terror, dropping his backpack and stumbling backward.

Before Wyatt could even get within ten feet of my son, a massive, immovable force slammed into him. David, who had decided to leave the office early to surprise Leo for pickup, tackled Wyatt to the concrete with bone-crushing force.

Wyatt gasped for air as David pinned him to the ground, his forearm pressed brutally against the back of Wyatt’s neck.

“You ever come near my son again,” David snarled, his voice a low, lethal vibration of pure masculine rage, “and I will ensure you spend the rest of your pathetic life breathing through a tube. Do you understand me?”

My security guard rushed forward, scooping a crying, terrified Leo into his arms and rushing him to the safety of the SUV. The school’s armed resource officers swarmed the area, hauling a weeping, bloodied Wyatt to his feet.

Because I had already secured a permanent restraining order against Wyatt months ago, this physical ambush was an automatic, undeniable felony violation. Wyatt didn't even try to fight as the police shoved him into the back of a cruiser. He pressed his face against the glass, watching David wrap his arms protectively around the SUV where Leo was safely hidden.

In that moment, staring through the metal grate of the police car, Wyatt finally accepted his reality. He wasn't a victim of circumstance. He was the architect of his own absolute destruction. And he was going to die completely alone.
