Chapter 14 - The White-Hat GambitTo completely destroy a matriarch who operates in the shadows, you must drag her into the blinding light and strip her of her illusions of power in front of the entire world.

Forty-eight hours later, the Global Marketing Summit was being held at the Javits Center. Victoria Sterling was the keynote speaker. She had planned to use the platform to publicly announce her acquisition of my agency, crowning herself the undisputed queen of the international market.

I did not stay in the hospital. I signed myself out against medical advice.

I arrived at the Javits Center in a black armored Maybach. I stepped out of the car wearing a sweeping, backless gown of liquid-sapphire silk that hid the postpartum exhaustion and projected nothing but absolute, terrifying power. David walked beside me in a razor-sharp Tom Ford tuxedo, radiating the lethal energy of a king defending his queen.

The ambient chatter in the grand auditorium died down instantly as we walked through the heavy double doors. The sea of billionaires and tech moguls parted for us.

I spotted her immediately. Victoria stood at the center podium, bathed in a spotlight, looking smug and victorious. When she saw me walking down the center aisle, her confident smile completely evaporated.

"Maya," Victoria stammered into the microphone, her composure cracking. "I assumed you would be recovering. You have no business being here. Security, escort them out."

David stepped forward, his towering frame instantly intimidating the venue guards. "I wouldn't do that. The perimeter of this building is currently surrounded by federal agents from the SEC and the Cyber Crimes Division."

Victoria scoffed, though a bead of sweat formed on her brow. "You are bluffing."

I reached into my sapphire clutch and pulled out a sleek, encrypted titanium tablet. I tapped the screen once, illuminating a highly detailed digital ledger, and projected it directly onto the massive screen behind Victoria’s podium.

"When you logged into my servers yesterday, Victoria," I said smoothly, my voice echoing through the silent, massive auditorium, "you thought you were securing your victory. You didn't realize I left the door open so I could walk into your house."

Victoria turned around, looking at the massive screen. The color completely and utterly drained from her face. The untouchable billionaire shattered in a microsecond.

"My Trojan audited your Geneva mainframe," I announced to the thousands of industry leaders in the room. "I didn't just find the spoofed timestamps proving you falsified the intellectual property claim against me. I found the unredacted offshore ledgers where you’ve been laundering billions of dollars for sanctioned oligarchs. You didn't just commit corporate sabotage, Victoria. You committed international treason."

"You... you hacked my servers!" Victoria shrieked, her aristocratic facade entirely destroyed.

"I didn't hack them. I exposed them," I whispered coldly.

The heavy doors of the auditorium burst open. A dozen federal agents marched directly down the aisle.

"Victoria Sterling!" the lead agent barked, flashing his badge. "You are under arrest for massive federal wire fraud, corporate espionage, and international money laundering."

Victoria didn't fight. She couldn't. As the agents slapped heavy steel handcuffs onto her wrists, she shot one last, terrified, pleading look at me.

"You haven't won!" she wept as they dragged her off the stage.

"I won the moment you thought a mother was a weak target," I replied softly.
