Chapter 15 - The Apex MonolithThe silence in the grand auditorium was absolute. As the federal agents dragged the ruined matriarch out into the crisp Manhattan air, the power brokers of the world stared at me in profound, awe-struck terror.

I didn't gloat. I calmly picked up a fresh glass of sparkling water from a passing waiter's tray.
"My apologies for the interruption, ladies and gentlemen," I said, offering the stunned room a radiant, devastatingly beautiful smile. "Please. Enjoy the summit."
I took David’s arm and walked out into the cool, winter night.
The fallout from the summit was a seismic event in global finance. The Obsidian Group collapsed under the weight of international sanctions and federal raids. Victoria was denied bail, completely bankrupted, disgraced, and facing life in a federal penitentiary.
My agency, completely insulated from the blast radius, absorbed the massive vacuum left by Obsidian’s legitimate European assets. We were no longer just a marketing firm. We were a global, untouchable monolith.
One month later.
The air in the Hamptons was crisp, carrying the sharp scent of sea salt and winter pine. The sprawling, oceanfront estate David and I had built from the ground up was bathed in the warm, golden light of late afternoon.
I sat on the massive wrap-around deck, wrapped in a thick cashmere blanket. In my arms, our son, Leo, was sleeping soundly, his tiny chest rising and falling in perfect, peaceful rhythm.
The world was perfectly, undeniably quiet.
I heard the soft, familiar footsteps behind me.
David walked out through the French doors. The ruthless venture capitalist who had helped me burn down a billionaire's empire was completely gone. In his place was just a man—my husband, my equal, the absolute love of my life.
He wrapped his strong arms around my shoulders from behind, burying his face in the crook of my neck, inhaling deeply.
"Elena just sent the final projections for the new global headquarters," David murmured, his deep voice a comforting rumble against my skin. "We officially control the board, Maya. There is no one left to fight."
"There will always be someone who thinks they can take what we have built," I said softly, leaning back into his solid embrace.
"Let them try," David smiled, a rogue, brilliant expression touching his lips. He moved his hand down, resting it gently, reverently, over Leo’s tiny, sleeping head. "They will find an impenetrable fortress, and a queen who never misses."
Tears of pure, unadulterated joy pricked my eyes. I reached up, wrapping my fingers around David’s.
I thought about the long, bloody road that had brought me to this deck. I thought about the freezing water, the sabotage, Caleb, and Victoria. They had all looked at me and seen a soft, vulnerable target. They had seen a woman they could break, silence, or consume.
They were all rotting in concrete cells, completely destroyed by the very woman they had underestimated.
I leaned my head back, capturing David's lips in a deep, passionate, completely intoxicating kiss that sealed our history and ignited our limitless future.
The terrified, accommodating girl who had nearly drowned in the dark was a ghost, buried permanently under a mountain of steel, glass, and absolute resilience. The queen had not just taken her throne; she had forged a sovereign empire that no man, no ghost, and no monster could ever tear down.

I was Maya. I was victorious. I was loved.
And this beautiful, brilliant empire of light was going to last forever.
