Chapter 9 - The Executioner’s GalaTo completely destroy a man who operates in the shadows, you must drag him into the blinding light and strip him of his illusions of power in front of the entire world.

The Vanguard Gala was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was an ultra-exclusive, closed-door event designed to project an image of untouchable tech supremacy.

I did not sneak in. I arrived in a black armored Maybach.

I stepped out of the car wearing a backless, sweeping gown of liquid-fire crimson silk. I looked like armor. I looked like an immortal queen coming to reclaim her stolen territory. David walked beside me in a razor-sharp, bespoke tuxedo, radiating the lethal, protective energy of an executioner waiting for the nod.

The ambient chatter in the grand hall died down instantly as we walked through the heavy brass doors. The sea of Wall Street billionaires and Silicon Valley moguls parted for us.

I spotted him immediately. Caleb stood near the Temple of Dendur, wearing a cheap suit trying to pass as bespoke, holding a glass of scotch. He was whispering frantically to a group of shadowed, dangerous-looking venture capitalists.

When he saw me, his confident, mocking smirk completely evaporated. The glass in his hand trembled. He had assumed I was currently sitting in a ruined office, crying over a terminated contract.

I walked directly toward him, parting the crowd with the sheer, uncompromising gravity of my presence.

"Hello, Caleb," I said smoothly, stopping three feet away from him. My voice projected clearly over the silent, echoing hall. "You look surprised to see me. Didn't you check the Facebook metrics this morning?"

Caleb’s face flushed a violent shade of red. "You... you manipulated the algorithm. You cheated!"

"I didn't cheat, Caleb. I built a better machine," I smiled, my eyes hardening into chips of ice. "Did you really think buying dirty traffic from rejected websites would be enough to sink me? Your little bot net didn't trigger a ban. It just fed my conversion rates."

The venture capitalists standing behind Caleb stepped away from him, their faces darkening with fury. He had promised them my ruin, and instead, he had wasted their capital.

"Security!" Caleb panicked, looking around wildly. "Remove her!"

David stepped forward, his towering frame instantly dominating the space. "I wouldn't do that, Caleb. The perimeter of this museum is currently surrounded by federal agents from the Cyber Crimes Division."

Caleb scoffed, though a microscopic bead of sweat formed on his brow. "You are bluffing. You have no proof I sent that traffic."

I reached into my crimson clutch and pulled out a sleek, encrypted titanium tablet. I tapped the screen once, illuminating a highly detailed digital ledger, and held it up for him to see.

"When you launched your attack," I whispered softly, stepping entirely into his personal space, "my clean room didn't just block your bots. It traced their origin point. I have the unredacted wire transfers proving you used stolen funds to buy that malicious traffic. But more importantly..."

I swiped the screen, bringing up an old, grainy security photo from a marina on a freezing December night.

"I spent the last six months hiring private investigators to dredge the lake where you left me," I announced, delivering the fatal blow. "They found the burner phone you dropped on the dock. The one containing the texts where you outlined your plan to drown me and steal my company."

Caleb staggered backward, absolute, unadulterated horror replacing his arrogance.

The heavy oak doors of the museum burst open. A dozen federal agents marched directly into the hall.

"Caleb Vance!" the lead agent barked. "You are under arrest for attempted murder, massive federal wire fraud, and corporate sabotage."

Caleb didn't fight. As the agents slapped heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists, he shot one last, terrified, pleading look at me.

"You haven't won!" he shrieked as they dragged him away.

"I won the moment I refused to drown," I replied coldly, turning my back on him.
