Chapter 13 - The Trojan Checkmate

The trap was set, but apex predators are rarely careless. Thorne was anticipating a digital counter-strike, heavily encrypting his offshore proxy servers.

At 3:14 AM, the screen flashed a brilliant, blinding red. Thorne’s brute-force algorithms were attempting to hack into the Foundation’s primary banking infrastructure, trying to freeze our operational capital before I could completely expose him.

"He’s trying to drain the accounts," Sofia warned, gripping the edge of the steel counter.

"I’m going to let him think he succeeded," I replied coldly.

I rapidly created a flawless, mirrored replica of our foundation’s mainframe—a digital honeypot. It looked completely authentic, filled with dummy ledgers and simulated revenue streams. But buried deep within the source code was the self-replicating digital parasite Sofia and I had designed.

I opened the firewall just enough for Thorne’s brute-force algorithm to break through.

On my screen, I watched the bandwidth spike. Thorne was downloading the administrative keys to the fake mainframe, believing he had just conquered my empire.

"He took the bait," I said, hovering my finger over the execute key. "The moment his server processes the keys, the parasite detonates."

I hit enter.

The monitors in the kitchen violently flashed green. Our malware didn't just infiltrate Thorne’s system; it ripped his entire shadow empire apart. I watched in real-time as the parasite stripped away his military-grade VPNs, shattered his firewalls, and laid his hidden ledgers entirely bare.

A video call request popped up on my main monitor. Thorne was desperately trying to negotiate. I accepted the call.

The face that appeared on the screen was aristocratic, but twisted with absolute, unadulterated panic. Elias Thorne was sitting in his lavish London penthouse, staring at his own monitors as my code systematically deleted his life's work.

"Adrian! Stop the protocol!" Thorne screamed, his suave demeanor completely obliterated. "You are crashing my central servers! You are exposing my international payrolls!"

"I’m not just exposing them, Elias," I said, leaning closer to the camera, my voice echoing with lethal, uncompromising authority. "I am executing a high-frequency transfer protocol. I am breaking your syndicate’s liquid cash into ten thousand micro-transactions, and I am funneling it directly into the public bank accounts of Interpol and your most vicious international rivals."

"You are destroying me!" he pleaded, sweat pouring down his face.

"You threatened my wife and my daughter," I whispered, the absolute truth of a father's wrath vibrating through the microphone. "You crossed the one line that guarantees your total annihilation. You thought you were the architect of the underworld. But you forgot that I am the one who owns the lights."
