Chapter 19 - The Complete ErasureThe sun rose on a completely different world.

By 7:00 AM, the financial news networks were in absolute hysterics. The stock price of Vance Capital Holdings was in a terrifying, uncontrollable freefall, plummeting eighty percent in pre-market trading. The data drop I had engineered was flawless, undeniable, and utterly devastating.

We hadn't just exposed Julian Vance; we had triggered automated margin calls on every single one of his over-leveraged assets. The algorithms I deployed systematically dismantled his wealth, moving faster than his lawyers could even answer their phones.

I was sitting at the dining room table, sipping a fresh espresso, watching the news on a tablet. The headline read: BILLIONAIRE JULIAN VANCE ARRESTED BY FEDERAL AGENTS AMIDST HISTORIC FRAUD SCANDAL.

The footage showed Julian, looking pale, disheveled, and completely broken, being shoved into the back of an armored federal SUV. His designer suit was wrinkled; his arrogance was entirely vaporized.

"It's almost too easy," Sofia mused, walking into the dining room carrying a plate of fresh croissants. She set them down and kissed the top of my head. "He really thought he was the smartest person in the room."

"Hubris is the ultimate vulnerability," I replied, turning off the tablet. "He thought because he had money, he had power. He didn't understand that true power isn't about capital. It's about architecture. We built a system that cannot be extorted."

Just then, my phone rang. It was the Director of the FBI’s Cyber Division.

"Mr. Moretti," the Director's gravelly voice came through the speaker. "We've seized Vance's physical servers. The evidence you provided anonymously was... incredibly thorough. The man is going to spend the rest of his natural life in a concrete box."

"I'm glad justice is being served, Director," I replied, my tone neutral and polite.

"There's something else," the Director paused. "During the raid, we found digital transfer logs. Vance's offshore accounts were completely drained approximately three minutes before we froze his assets. Over two billion dollars, vanished into the blockchain. We have no idea where it went."

I looked up at Sofia. She gave me a slow, knowing smile.

"That is a mystery, Director," I said smoothly. "Cybercrime is a terrible thing. Perhaps he hid it away, hoping to use it when he gets out."

"He's never getting out," the Director assured me. "Thank you for your cooperation, Mr. Moretti."

I hung up the phone and took a bite of my croissant.

"So," Sofia said, pouring herself a cup of coffee. "What exactly are we going to do with two billion dollars in newly liberated, untraceable capital?"

"I was thinking," I replied, pulling up a blueprint on my laptop, "we double the size of the pediatric oncology wing in Chicago. And maybe build three more hospitals in Southeast Asia. I hear the construction sector there is ripe for development."

We had taken the empire of our enemy and turned it into the very foundation that would heal the world.
