Chapter 18 - The Geneva GambitIf you want to kill a king, you don't attack his castle. You poison his treasury.

Forty-eight hours after Vincenzo delivered the bloody coin, Dante and I stepped off our private Gulfstream onto the freezing tarmac of Geneva Airport. The Swiss Alps loomed in the distance, a jagged, ice-capped fortress of silence. I wore a tailored, stark-white winter coat, my hair pulled into a severe chignon. Dante walked beside me in a black bespoke overcoat, his presence radiating a dark, lethal gravity that made the airport security personnel physically step out of our way.
We were not here for a vacation. We were here to execute an empire.
We checked into the presidential suite of the Hotel d'Angleterre, overlooking the freezing waters of Lake Geneva.
Elias, my chief of corporate security, was already waiting for us in the suite with a team of six heavily armed private contractors. He had set up a localized, un-hackable server network in the dining room.
"We found the artery," Elias reported, the moment the heavy doors locked behind us. He brought up a digital schematic on his laptop. "The Commission’s entire global liquidity is funneled through a single, highly exclusive private bank right here in Geneva: Banque de L'Ombre. It’s a subterranean vault system. They use it to wash billions in cartel and extortion revenue before distributing it to the old families in Sicily."
"Who manages the vault?" I asked, shedding my coat.
"A man named Julian Croft. Swiss national. Aristocratic, paranoid, and untouchable," Elias explained. "He only meets with the highest-ranking emissaries. He requires dual-biometric authentication to even authorize a ledger transfer."
"Vincenzo is the primary emissary," Dante said, his voice a low, vibrating rumble. He poured two glasses of scotch, handing one to me. "If Vincenzo transferred the funds, the Commission survives. We need to shut that vault down."
"We aren't going to shut it down, Dante," I smiled, a predatory, terrifying expression. "We are going to empty it."
Dante looked at me, a mixture of profound awe and dark amusement in his eyes. "You want to rob the most secure mafia bank in Europe?"
"It’s not a robbery if you have the keys," I corrected smoothly. I turned to Elias. "Did your team intercept Vincenzo’s itinerary?"
"Yes," Elias nodded. "He’s scheduled to meet with Julian Croft at the bank tomorrow night at 9:00 PM to execute the quarterly payout for the Commission. It’s a two-billion-dollar transfer."
"Perfect," I whispered, my mind running a thousand calculations a second. "Elias, I need you to manufacture a localized EMP charge. Small enough to fit in a briefcase, powerful enough to knock out the bank's secondary security grid for exactly sixty seconds."
"I can do that. But how do you get past Croft and the biometrics?" Elias asked.
"I don't," I said, picking up my glass of scotch. "Dante does."
I turned to my husband. The apex predator of New York was watching me with absolute, unwavering devotion.
"Vincenzo relies on fear," I explained softly, walking over to Dante and resting my free hand against his chest. "But you, my love, are the devil himself. Tomorrow night, we are going to crash their little meeting. And you are going to convince Don Vincenzo to hand over his kingdom."
The following evening, the freezing rain turned the streets of Geneva into slick, black mirrors.
The Banque de L'Ombre did not look like a bank. It looked like a centuries-old, impenetrable fortress carved out of gray stone. The heavy iron doors were guarded by men who looked less like security and more like paramilitary mercenaries.
At 8:55 PM, our armored Maybach pulled up to the curb.
I stepped out first, wearing a backless, midnight-blue evening gown beneath a heavy sable coat, the fifteen-carat diamond flashing on my finger. Dante emerged a second later, a wraith of pure violence in a black tuxedo. Elias walked three paces behind us, carrying a sleek, silver briefcase.
We didn't wait for permission. We walked directly toward the iron doors.
The lead mercenary stepped forward, raising a suppressed submachine gun. "This facility is closed. Step back."
Dante didn't slow down. He didn't even break his stride. In a blur of motion too fast to track, Dante grabbed the barrel of the mercenary’s weapon, twisted it violently backward, and drove his knee into the man's chest. The guard collapsed, gasping for air. The other guards raised their weapons, but Elias and our team already had them dead-to-rights with laser sights painted directly on their foreheads.
"Open the door," Dante commanded, his voice echoing with the finality of a closing coffin.

The surviving guard, trembling violently, swiped a keycard. The heavy iron doors hissed open.
We walked into the belly of the beast. The endgame had begun.
