Chapter 15 - The Empire of LightThe silence in the grand hall was absolute. As the agents dragged the ruined matriarch out into the crisp San Francisco night, the power brokers of the world stared at me in profound, unadulterated awe and terror.

I didn't gloat. I calmly picked up a fresh glass of champagne from a passing waiter.
"My apologies for the interruption, ladies and gentlemen," I said, offering the stunned room a radiant, devastatingly beautiful smile. "Please. Enjoy the gala."
I turned my back on the wreckage, took Adrian’s arm, and walked out into the cool, starlit night.
The fallout from the summit was a seismic event in global finance. Aethelgard Holdings collapsed under the weight of international sanctions. Genevieve was denied bail, her empire carved up and sold for scraps. Elias took a plea deal and vanished into federal custody.
Apex Biotech absorbed the remaining viable European supply chains. We were no longer just a global monolith. We were the undisputed architects of the future.
One year later.
The air in Northern California was warm, carrying the sweet scent of blooming jasmine and sea salt. The sprawling, historic estate Adrian and I had purchased in Napa Valley was bathed in the golden light of late afternoon.
I stood on the massive wrap-around deck, wearing a flowing white linen dress, the breeze playing with my hair.
The world was perfectly, undeniably quiet.
I heard the soft, familiar footsteps behind me.
Adrian walked out through the French doors. The ruthless board member was completely gone. In his place was just a man—my partner, my equal, the absolute love of my life. He wrapped his strong arms around me from behind, burying his face in the crook of my neck, holding me flush against his solid chest.
"The final injunctions against the Croft shell companies cleared this morning," Adrian murmured, his voice a comforting rumble against my skin. "The board is entirely loyal to you, Elara. There is no one left to fight."
"There will always be someone who thinks they can take what we have built," I said softly, leaning back into his embrace.
"Let them try," Adrian smiled, a rogue, brilliant expression. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, black velvet box.
He didn't drop to one knee. We didn't believe in submission. He simply opened the box, revealing a flawless, emerald-cut diamond ring that caught the dying sunlight.
"I told you once that I didn't want to steal your light. I wanted to stand beside it," Adrian whispered, his dark eyes filled with a fierce, unwavering devotion that took my breath away. "You burned down a cage, Elara. You built an empire. And I want to spend the rest of my life making sure you never have to fight another war alone. Marry me."
Tears of pure, unadulterated joy pricked my eyes. I didn't hesitate. I didn't second-guess.
"Yes," I whispered.
Adrian slid the ring onto my finger. It was a perfect fit. He pulled me into his arms, kissing me with a passionate, intoxicating promise of absolute loyalty.
I looked out at the vast horizon, the golden sun reflecting off the endless expanse of the vineyards.
