Chapter 23 - The Monaco GambitWhen you burn your own castle to the ground, you deny your enemy a throne.

At 9:00 A.M., the global servers of Apex Biotech went entirely dark. The fallout was spectacular, catastrophic, and completely unprecedented. Wall Street panicked. CNN and Bloomberg ran emergency broadcasts. Apex’s stock plummeted forty percent in two hours.
But the patients were safe. The phantom code was frozen in the dark.
By the time our jet touched down in the glittering, billionaire playground of Monaco, the world thought Elara Hastings had lost her mind. They didn't realize I had just executed the most ruthless tactical maneuver in corporate history.
"Aris is hosting a private gala tonight at the Casino de Monte-Carlo," Adrian briefed me as we rode in the back of an armored Maybach along the French Riviera. "He plans to announce his 'acquisition' of Apex to a room full of European biotech magnates."
"He doesn't know the servers are dead yet," I deduced, a dark, razor-sharp smile touching my lips. "He’s been offline, preparing to gloat."
I arrived at the Casino de Monte-Carlo wearing a sweeping, backless gown of liquid-sapphire silk that clung to my curves. I wore no jewelry, save for the massive diamond on my ring finger. I looked like absolute, untouchable power. Adrian walked beside me in a bespoke midnight-blue tuxedo, radiating the kind of lethal gravity that made the casino's elite security team physically step back as we approached.
The grand ballroom was a masterpiece of gold leaf and crystal chandeliers. The room was packed with the most powerful pharmaceutical titans in Europe.
I spotted Aris Thorne immediately. He stood on the grand staircase, holding a champagne flute, basking in the adoration of his sycophants.
When he saw me, his smug smile widened into a predatory grin. He actually thought I had flown across the world to sign the surrender papers.
"Elara," Aris announced loudly, drawing the attention of the entire room. He walked down the stairs, his arms spread wide. "Ladies and gentlemen, the prodigal daughter returns. I assume you have the transfer documents ready?"
"I don't surrender, Aris," I said smoothly, stopping three feet away from him. My voice projected clearly over the silent, echoing ballroom. "And I don't negotiate with terrorists."
Aris scoffed, though a microscopic bead of sweat formed on his brow. "You are bluffing. Your company is bleeding out. Sign the papers, or the patients die."
"The patients are perfectly fine, Aris," I smiled, stepping entirely into his personal space. I pulled a sleek, encrypted tablet from my clutch and held it up for him to see. "Because at 9:00 A.M. this morning, I permanently deleted the entire Apex global network."
Aris’s face drained of every drop of color. "You... you crashed your own company? You destroyed billions of dollars!"
"I am an architect, Aris. I can rebuild my company in a week," I whispered coldly. "But you? You spent your entire shadow syndicate's fortune shorting Apex stock, expecting to buy it back when I surrendered. But because I initiated a voluntary shutdown, the SEC froze trading on Apex shares globally. You can't cash out."

Aris stumbled backward, staring at me in absolute horror. The arrogant predator had just realized he was the prey.
"You are bankrupt, Aris," I announced, delivering the fatal blow. "And the French authorities are waiting outside."
