Chapter 9 - The Silicon Valley GalaTo truly destroy a king, you must do it on his own stage.

The annual Silicon Valley Innovators Gala was held two nights later at the Palace of Fine Arts. It was the epicenter of global tech wealth. Julian Croft had originally planned to use this event to announce his acquisition of Apex.

I arrived in a sweeping, backless gown of liquid-emerald silk. Adrian walked beside me in a sharp tuxedo, radiating a protective, quiet authority. As we entered the grand hall, the ambient chatter died down instantly. The sea of tech billionaires parted for me.

I spotted Julian and Tristan near the champagne fountain. They were sweating, frantically checking their phones. The news hadn't broken officially yet, but the whispers were already circulating through the room.

I walked directly toward them.

"Elara," Julian choked out, his aristocratic composure completely annihilated. "Please. We can restructure this. I can offer you a partnership."

"I don't partner with parasites," I said, my voice projecting clearly over the soft string quartet.

Tristan looked at me, his eyes wide with unadulterated terror. The man who had once promised to protect me was begging for his life. "Elara, we were going to get married. Please, don't do this. I’ll leave the state. Just pull the evidence back."

"I can't pull back the truth, Tristan," I said softly, stepping closer so only he could hear the absolute lack of mercy in my voice. "You used my love to build your ego. You tried to sell my life's work for a paycheck. You are a coward, and tonight, the whole world is going to know it."

Before Tristan could respond, the heavy brass doors of the gala burst open.

A dozen federal agents in dark suits marched directly through the crowd of horrified billionaires.

"Julian Croft! Tristan Vance! Keep your hands where we can see them!" the lead agent roared.

The room fell into dead, suffocating silence. Julian didn't fight. He closed his eyes in absolute defeat. But Tristan panicked. He tried to run toward the terrace. Two agents tackled him violently to the marble floor, snapping cold, heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.

"You set me up!" Tristan screamed, thrashing against the agents as they hauled him to his feet. "She framed me!"

"Nobody is listening to you anymore, Tristan," I said, looking at him one last time.

As the agents dragged the ruined men out of the glittering gala, the power brokers of Silicon Valley stared at me in profound, awe-struck terror.

I calmly picked up a fresh glass of champagne from a passing waiter.

"My apologies for the interruption, ladies and gentlemen," I said, offering the stunned room a radiant, devastatingly beautiful smile. "Please. Enjoy your evening."
