Chapter 13 - The Trojan Checkmate

Matteo realized his smear campaign was collapsing, and cornered predators always lash out.
At 3:00 AM, my monitors flashed red. Matteo was attempting a brute-force hack into the foundation’s primary banking infrastructure, trying to freeze our operational capital before I could completely expose him.
“He’s trying to drain the accounts,” Sofia warned, gripping the back of my leather chair.
“I’m going to let him think he succeeded,” I replied coldly.
I rapidly created a flawless, mirrored replica of our foundation’s mainframe—a digital honeypot. It looked completely authentic, filled with dummy ledgers and simulated revenue streams. But buried deep within the source code was a self-replicating digital parasite I had designed specifically for this moment.
I opened the firewall just enough for Matteo’s brute-force algorithm to break through.
On my screen, I watched the bandwidth spike. Matteo was downloading the administrative keys to the fake mainframe, believing he had just conquered my empire.
“He took the bait,” I said, hovering my finger over the execute key. “The moment his server processes the keys, the parasite detonates.”
I hit enter.
The monitors in the war room violently flashed green. My malware didn't just infiltrate Matteo’s system; it ripped his entire shadow empire apart. I watched in real-time as the parasite stripped away his military-grade VPNs, shattered his firewalls, and laid his hidden ledgers entirely bare.
A video call request popped up on my main monitor. Matteo was desperately trying to negotiate. I accepted the call.
The face that appeared on the screen was aristocratic, but twisted with absolute, unadulterated panic. Matteo Moretti was sitting in a lavish Roman penthouse, staring at his own monitors as my code systematically deleted his life's work.
“Isabella! Stop the protocol!” Matteo screamed, his suave demeanor completely obliterated. “You are crashing my central servers! You are exposing my political payrolls!”
“I’m not just exposing them, Matteo,” I said, leaning closer to the camera, my voice echoing with lethal, uncompromising authority. “I am executing a high-frequency transfer protocol. I am breaking your syndicate’s liquid cash into ten thousand micro-transactions, and I am funneling it directly into the public bank accounts of Interpol and your most vicious international rivals.”
“You are destroying your own family!” he pleaded, sweat pouring down his face.

“You threatened my son,” I whispered, the absolute truth of a mother's wrath vibrating through the microphone. “You crossed the one line that guarantees your total annihilation. You thought you were the architect of the underworld. But you forgot that I am the one who owns the lights.”
I severed the connection. On my screen, I watched the final command execute. Matteo’s physical coordinates were simultaneously broadcast to every major intelligence agency in Europe.
