Chapter 22 - The Bloodline Clause"Security!" Sofia roared, her hand dropping to the concealed ceramic blade she always carried in the lining of her jacket.

"I wouldn't do that," Eleanor said, stepping away from the crib and smoothing her coat. "The men downstairs are currently enjoying the champagne, blissfully unaware that my operatives have completely surrounded this estate. Your digital fortress? I built the foundation it sits on. Victor was just the public face. The muscle. I am the brain."

I stepped in front of Sofia, shielding the crib. My mind was racing, calculating every possible angle. "Victor is rotting in a supermax. Your accounts are frozen globally. You have nothing."

Eleanor laughed, a dry, chilling sound. "Oh, my sweet, naive girl. Did you really think a syndicate that has controlled European politics for four decades kept all its money in banks you could find? I let you take Victor down. He was getting sloppy. He was a liability. But you? You streamlined my operations."

She walked toward the heavy oak door, pausing just inches from me.

"I didn't come here to kill you, Isabella. That would be far too merciful," Eleanor whispered. "I came to deliver a message. I have filed a petition in the international family courts. As Victor's mother, I am claiming emergency custody of Leo, citing your dangerous, unstable lifestyle and your direct involvement in international cyber-terrorism."

"You have no proof of anything!" I spat, my hands curling into fists. "No judge in the world would grant you custody."

"They will when they see the evidence of you embezzling your own charity funds to pay off assassins," she smiled, tapping her manicured finger against my cheek. I slapped her hand away. "Check the news in five minutes, Isabella. The narrative is already shifting. You have forty-eight hours to sign over the encryption keys to your digital network. If you do, I will drop the custody suit and let you disappear. If you don't? I will take your son, your freedom, and your legacy."

She walked out the door, stepping right over the unconscious guards, and disappeared down the servant's staircase.

Sofia pulled me into a tight embrace as I began to shake with pure, unfiltered rage. We ran to the crib. Leo was perfectly fine, sleeping peacefully, oblivious to the monster that had just held him.

"She’s bluffing," Sofia said, her voice hard. "She can't touch us legally."

I pulled my phone from my pocket. The screen was blowing up. Notifications from every major US and European news outlet were flooding in.

"She isn't bluffing," I said, my voice dropping to a deadly, hollow whisper. "She just burned our reputation to the ground."

I looked at Sofia, the titanium spine I had forged in the fire suddenly turning into something much sharper. "Pack a bag. We are going off the grid."
