Chapter 15: The Unbreakable Vow

Later that evening, after the guests had gone home and the ballroom was being cleared, Daniel and I stood on the grand balcony overlooking the city skyline.

The night air was cool and crisp. The twins were asleep in the private suite upstairs, guarded by the best security money could buy.

Daniel handed me a glass of sparkling water. He didn't drink anymore. He hadn't touched alcohol since the day our marriage broke.

"You were incredible tonight," he said softly, leaning against the stone railing. "You have done more for this family's name in six months than my mother did in forty years."

"We did it," I corrected him. "You backed me up. You trusted me."

Daniel looked down at his hands. "It was the best decision I ever made. The only good decision I've made in a long time."

He turned to look at me, his eyes filled with a quiet, profound respect.

"I don't expect you to ever love me the way you used to, Lauren," Daniel said, his voice thick with emotion. "I broke that privilege. But I want you to know... I will spend the rest of my breathing life making sure you and the twins are safe. You are the only queen this family will ever answer to."

I looked at the man beside me. The father of my children. My co-pilot in this massive empire.

"I know, Daniel," I smiled softly. "I know."
