A month passed. The company was thriving under my direction. Without Eleanor’s constant financial draining and toxic interference, our profit margins soared.

"Ms. Lauren," Sarah's voice came through, sounding slightly tense. "There is a woman here to see you. She doesn't have an appointment, but she says it is a matter of life and death regarding Daniel."

"Who is it?" I asked.

"She said her name is Vanessa."

Vanessa. The woman who had lied, manipulated, and orchestrated the destruction of my marriage. The woman who had abandoned Daniel the moment the truth came to light and his money was threatened.

"Send her in," I said, my voice dangerously calm.

The door opened. Vanessa stepped inside. She looked entirely different from the glamorous, confident mistress she used to be. Her clothes were wrinkled, her makeup was smudged, and she looked desperate.
