Chapter 7: The First Order

The corner office of the CEO used to be a place that intimidated me. It was lined with dark oak, smelling of expensive scotch and generations of arrogant entitlement. Now, it smelled like fresh rain and absolute victory.
I sat behind the massive desk, my fingers tracing the polished wood.
Daniel had officially vacated the room an hour ago, moving his things to the COO's office two floors down. He had handed me the reins without a single hesitation.
The door violently swung open.
Eleanor marched in. She hadn't bothered to knock. Her face was flushed, her designer pearls clicking against her chest as she breathed heavily.
"You think you have won," Eleanor hissed, slamming her hands on my desk. "You think you can just waltz into my family's legacy and play queen? The board will never respect you. The investors will pull their capital. You are a suburban housewife masquerading as a titan!"
I didn't blink. I didn't raise my voice.
I simply pressed the intercom button on the phone.
"Sarah," I said to my newly appointed executive assistant. "Could you please send Marcus in? And have security stand by on this floor."
Eleanor scoffed, standing up straight. "Security? For me? You wouldn't dare."
"I am the sole executor of the trust, Eleanor," I reminded her, leaning back in the heavy leather chair. "Which means I am legally obligated to protect its assets. And right now, you are a liability."
Marcus, the lead corporate attorney, stepped into the office holding a thick stack of financial ledgers.

"You wanted to see the discretionary spending reports, Ma'am?" Marcus asked, completely ignoring Eleanor.
"Yes," I smiled coldly. "I want to see exactly how much of my children's money this woman has been wasting on herself."
