Chapter 35: The Blackout

Marcus blinked, completely stunned. "Lauren... buy Horizon Aerospace? That’s a forty-billion-dollar company!"
"I don't care if it costs eighty billion," I said, my voice echoing with absolute, uncompromising authority. "My personal emergency liquid reserves are completely off-grid and unhackable. Use them. Initiate a hostile, premium-cash buyout of Horizon Aerospace. I want majority controlling shares secured by 3:00 a.m."
Daniel’s eyes widened as he realized exactly what I was planning. "You aren't just going to hack him back. You are going to turn off his sky."
"Exactly," I said, walking back to the head of the table. "Silas thinks he is untouchable because he uses the clouds to hide. So, I am going to buy the clouds."

The Harrington-Parker empire officially owned the largest private satellite network on the planet.
At 7:45 a.m., exactly fifteen minutes before Silas’s deadline to destroy my life, the screen in the war room flickered back to life.
Silas appeared, looking arrogant and completely relaxed.
"Time is up, Lauren," Silas grinned. "I haven't received the transfer documents. I suppose you chose to burn."
I was sitting in my leather chair, sipping a fresh cup of coffee. I looked perfectly at peace.
"I didn't send the documents, Silas," I said smoothly, "Because I was busy shopping."
May you like
Silas frowned. "Shopping?"
"For satellites," I clarified.
