Chapter 18 - The Counter-StrikeThe click of the disconnected line hung heavily in the air. Silas Vance had orchestrated a flawless extortion plot. He had wrapped his hands around the throat of my company and was smiling while he squeezed. He expected the desperate, frantic reaction of a CEO watching her empire crumble. He expected me to surrender the Seedance 2.0 technology just to keep the lights on.

He clearly hadn't read my resume.

"Julian," I said, turning to my husband, a cold, calculating fire igniting in my chest. "Silas thinks he can leverage black-market tactics against us. He thinks his VIA clone accounts and forged labor rules make him a ghost. Let’s show him what a real haunting looks like."

"What’s the play?" Julian asked, a dangerous, thrilling smirk pulling at the corner of his lips. He loved it when I went to war.

"We are going to give him exactly what he asked for," I commanded, walking over to the digital smartboard. "Chloe, draft the patent transfer agreements for the Seedance 2.0 engine. Make them look entirely legitimate. Schedule a secure video conference with Silas and his board of directors for 11:00 PM tonight to execute the digital signatures."

Chloe’s eyes widened in horror. "Emily, you can't be serious! Seedance 2.0 is worth billions. If we give him the AI engine, he wins!"

"We aren't giving him the actual engine," I smiled, a predator baring its teeth. "We are giving him a customized, weaponized version of it. Julian, bring in the lead developers. I want them to isolate a dummy version of the Seedance software. But deep inside the source code, I want them to embed a highly aggressive, self-executing digital beacon."

Julian’s eyes lit up with brilliant realization. "A Trojan inside a Trojan. When Silas signs the documents and downloads the Seedance software onto his conglomerate’s mainframe, the beacon will activate."

"Exactly," I nodded fiercely. "The beacon won't destroy his servers; it will illuminate them. It will bypass his proxies and instantly unmask the IP addresses of every single black-market VIA clone farm he operates. It will extract the digital receipts of the forged European labor rules he used to lock our Meta accounts."

"And once we have that raw data," Julian finished, his voice radiating pure power, "we bypass Meta entirely. We take the evidence straight to the Department of Justice. We hit him with federal charges of corporate espionage, wire fraud, and international cyber-terrorism."

The next eight hours were a blur of high-stakes, adrenaline-fueled coding. My engineering team worked frantically to weave the digital trap, packaging the weaponized beacon inside the sleek, beautiful user interface of the Seedance 2.0 software. Meanwhile, Julian leveraged every high-level legal contact he had, placing a federal judge on standby to review our incoming evidence the moment the trap was sprung.

At 10:55 PM, the war room was completely silent. The lights were dimmed. I sat at the head of the mahogany table, wearing a stark, powerful white blazer, staring at the massive video conferencing screen. Julian stood right behind my chair, his hand resting reassuringly on my shoulder.

The screen blinked, and the video feed connected. Silas Vance appeared, sitting in his opulent Silicon Valley office, flanked by his smug corporate attorneys. He was sipping a glass of scotch, looking like a man who had already won the lottery.

"Emily," Silas smiled, raising his glass in a mock toast. "You’re looking remarkably composed for a woman who is about to surrender her most valuable asset. Have you reviewed the transfer documents?"

"I have," I said smoothly, projecting an aura of reluctant defeat. "You backed me into a corner, Silas. Without Meta, my KOC division is worthless. You win. The Seedance 2.0 software is packaged and ready for transfer."

"Smart girl," Silas sneered, his arrogance blinding him entirely to the trap. "Send the data packet. Once my engineers verify the source code, I’ll make the call to restore your accounts."

I looked up at Julian. He gave me a single, firm nod.

I hit the enter key. The progress bar on the screen illuminated, showing the massive transfer of the Seedance 2.0 file directly into Silas’s highly secure corporate servers.

"Transfer complete," I announced.

Silas chuckled, typing on his terminal to open the software. "Let’s see what this revolutionary text-to-video AI can really do."

He had no idea he had just swallowed the poison pill.
